Elon Musk's company begins tunneling for the Las Vegas Convention Center people mover
  • The convention center loop will have two 1-mile-long tunnels and was contracted at $52.5 million.
  • To be completed in January 2021, the same time as the convention center's 1.4 million square feet expansion of it's current 2.3 million-square-foot footprint, and in time for the annual Consumer Electronics Show.
  • The loop was designed to move 4,400 passengers per hour and will be free for patrons of the convention center.
  • The convention center expansion will be about 1.5 miles long, and passengers will be able to travel the full distance in just a few minutes instead of a half an hour to walk.
  • Work on stations and stops aboveground began last month after The Boring Company's machine was assembled on site
  • Elevators and escalators will provide access to each station. There will be protection from the weather, video surveillance, WiFi, vehicular tunnel access; and underground passenger stations.
  • Another tunnel underneath the Las Vegas strip is also possible.
