The Strong Museum, located in Rochester, New York, is the only museum anywhere devoted solely to the role of play in learning and human development and the ways in which play illuminates American cultural history. Both collections-based and hands-on, The Strong is among the largest history museums in the United States and was named the number one “Family Museum in the Country” by FamilyFun magazine.


The museum is also home to the National Toy Hall of Fame, the World Video Game Hall of Fame, the Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play, the Woodbury School, and the American Journal of Play. The Strong explores play and the ways in which it encourages learning, creativity, and discovery and illuminates cultural history.


By Bus

RTS is the regional, public transportation provider serving both city and suburban travelers. Stops on the RTS system are within easy walking distance of The Strong museum. The bus system offers departure points across Monroe County and connecting routes from Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, and other neighboring counties.


By Air

Guests flying into the Greater Rochester International Airport will enjoy short flight times—less than 90 minutes—from cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Washington, DC. Once at the airport, a 10-minute taxi ride or rideshare will bring you to The Strong museum.


By Rail

The Rochester, New York, region has more than 60 weekly Amtrak passenger rail departures from downtown. The rail station is within a short rideshare or taxi ride to The Strong museum.
